From KCTV5: Travelers at the Kansas City International Airport are being evacuated after a possible threat prompted officials to clear sections of the terminal.
The Kansas City Aviation Department confirmed the evacuation to KCTV5 News, saying Airport Police are working with the FBI to determine whether the threat is credible.
The incident was reported around 11:50 a.m. on Sunday, March 8.
“As a precaution, the department has evacuated sections of the Airport Terminal,” an Aviation Department spokesperson said. “Airport Police are working with the FBI to substantiate any potential threat.”
According to the report, highway exits leading to the airport have been closed off, and flights to have from the airport have been grounded, and passengers already aboard their planes were being confined to their planes.
In a post on X, the Kansas City International Airport announced, “The Kansas City Aviation Department is aware of a situation at Kansas City International Airport (MCI). As a precaution, the department has evacuated sections of the Airport Terminal. Airport Police are working with the FBI to substantiate any potential threat. Updates to follow.”

The Missouri Department of Transportation posted an announcement about the streets being blocked off leading to the airport.

In photos shared on social media, evacuated passengers were seen waiting out on the tarmac, a distance from the building.
One passenger announced in a post on social media, ““We were instructed to walk further from the building, near the airport’s back fences. Hanging here for now until we get further instruction.”

Another passenger, X user Logan, posted mutiple updates, and wrote, “Kansas City airport being evacuated. We were all told to immediately get to concourse A. K9’s and agents all over the place. No planes on the tarmac.”
“None of us have been told anything, we’ve been out here for an hour now. All agents left about 10 minutes ago,” he wrote in one post, adding later, “Okay I just talked to a security officer privately, he said “the police are checking a few more spots in the airport before declaring we can go back in..”

In another update, at 1:42 pm CT, Logan added, “We are being let back in, no information has been provided other than to get us off the tarmac.”

A pilot in Orlando made the announcement to his passengers, as they were supposed to be flying to Kansas City. He told them they would wait in Orlando until they got the all-clear from Kansas City.

This comes after a Southwest flight from Nashville to Fort Lauderdale was diverted to Atlanta Friday evening, and a passenger was removed from the plane in Atlanta over a reported security threat.
However, News Nation later reported: According to the FBI, both federal and local law enforcement investigated and interviewed the person involved in the incident, but there was “no credible threat,” and no charges will be filed.
