From Fox News: A former Department of Justice worker on trial for throwing a sandwich at a federal officer in Washington, D.C., earlier this year was found not guilty on Thursday.
Sean Dunn struck a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent (CBP) in the chest with a sandwich in August. He was facing charges of assaulting, resisting, opposing, impeding, intimidating and interfering with a federal officer.
Jurors deliberated for about seven hours before reaching a verdict. After it was read, Dunn hugged his lawyers in the courtroom.
During the trial, Dunn’s legal team insisted he threw the sandwich in protest of President Donald Trump’s deployment of the National Guard in Washington, D.C., and it was not a violent attack.
The August 10, 2025 attack was captured on video. Dunn is seen – not just tossing, but SLAMMING – the sandwich into the chest of the officer, then turning and running away like a coward. He was caught and handcuffed.
FBI Director Kash Patel had posted a copy of the video on X, and wrote,
The @FBI arrested this individual last night. He has been charged with felony assault on a federal officer.”

A longer video posted on X shows the moments leading up to the assault, as Dunn screamed at multiple federal agents, calling them “fascists” and yelling, “Shame! Shame!”
At the time of the attack, Dunn was working in the criminal division at the Department of Justice. He was fired by Attorney General Pam Bondi immediately after his arrest.
During the trial, Dunn’s lawyers acknowledged that he threw the sandwich at the CBP officer outside a nightclub, but claimed it was only done as an “exclamation point” to express his negative feelings about the National Guard’s deployment in D.C.
“It was a harmless gesture at the end of him exercising his right to speak out,” claimed defense attorney Julia Gatto.

Fox News correspondent Paul Mauro voiced his disgust, writing, “Utterly preposterous. Shame on the judge for letting this verdict stand. Now: DOJ, sue this clown.”
