BREAKING: Jury reaches verdict in Daniel Penny NYC subway case

From the New York Post: A Manhattan jury has cleared Daniel Penny of criminal wrongdoing in the chokehold death of Jordan Neely on a crowded subway — a caught-on-video killing that sparked fierce debate over the city’s mental health system and crime underground.

The panelists acquitted Penny of criminally negligent homicide — which could have put him behind bars for up to four years — in Neely’s chokehold death aboard a crowded uptown F train in May 2023.

Manslaughter, the top charge against Penny, was tossed on Friday after jurors twice said they couldn’t reach a unanimous verdict.

Jurors sided with Penny’s defense attorneys, who had argued that the Marine veteran was justified in rushing to protect his fellow subway straphangers when he subdued the erratic homeless man. The lawyers had also questioned whether there was sufficient evidence that the chokehold caused Neely’s death.

During the trial, jurors heard from over 40 witnesses, including passengers who described their fear over Neely’s threatening behavior, and their gratitude toward Penny for saving them.

In his closing statement on Monday, one of Penny’s lawyers, Steven Raiser, asked the jury, “Who do you want on the next train ride with you? The guy with the earbuds minding his own business who you know would be there for you if something happened? Or perhaps you just hope that someone like Jordan Neely does not enter that train when you are all alone, all alone in a crowd of others frozen with fear?”

Reactions are pouring in on social media.

Robby Starbuck wrote, “American hero Daniel Penny has been found NOT GUILTY on the remaining charge against him. What he’s been subjected to by Democrats is a tragedy. Thank God they weren’t able to railroad him into a life in prison. He’s a free man now. He deserves the Presidential Medal of Freedom.”

Investor Joe Lonsdale wrote, “Hearing Daniel Penny is not guilty by unanimous verdict 🇺🇸. It’s not a crime to defend women and children; it’s your duty as an honorable man. I’m sorry he went through this; we need to stop electing crazy D prosecutors!”

“Daniel Penny acquitted. This trial never should have taken place,” declared Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro.

A small group of Black Lives Matter protesters are outside the courthouse, and threatening, ‘They’re going to hear us f*cking tonight…y’all gonna get your moneys worth tonight motherf*ckers.’

“Everyone brace for impacts. The Democrats are about to make Jordan Neely into a George Floyd 2.0. Riots are going to start,” warned conservative Gunther Eagleman.

However, the legal battles are not completely over for Penny, as Neely’s father has filed a civil lawsuit against him.
