BREAKING: Judge issues ruling on California law aimed at forcing ICE agents to remove masks

2

From Fox News: A Los Angeles‑based federal judge on Monday blocked California from enforcing its law that would require ICE agents to remove masks during immigration enforcement operations.

Judge Christina Snyder, appointed during the Clinton administration, argued that the “No Secret Police Act” and “No Vigilantes Act” discriminated against the federal government by violating the Supremacy Clause.

Under the U.S. Constitution’s Supremacy Clause, federal law takes precedence over any conflicting state or local law, rendering the lower-level law unenforceable.

Attorney General Pam Bondi responded to the ruling with the following statement:

ANOTHER key court victory thanks to our outstanding @TheJusticeDept attorneys. Following our arguments, a district court in California BLOCKED the enforcement of a law that would have banned federal agents from wearing masks to protect their identities.

These federal agents are harassed, doxxed, obstructed, and attacked on a regular basis just for doing their jobs. We have no tolerance for it.

We will continue fighting and winning in court for President Trump’s law-and-order agenda — and we will ALWAYS have the backs of our great federal law enforcement officers.

UPDATE: California state senator Scott Wiener, a gay Democrat who is running for Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s seat in U.S. Congress, is now trying another tactic to get the judge’s ruling reversed.

Journalist Ashley Zavala announced, “After federal court blocked California’s mask ban for ICE officers/federal agents because it don’t apply to all officers in the state, Sen. @Scott_Wiener files bill to apply it to the California Highway Patrol. He notes Newsom’s office wanted them exempted from it.”

Wiener also announced, “ICE is harming everyone in this country, including our local police officers. My bill, the #nokings act, holds ICE and other federal officials accountable by allowing California residents to sue them when they violate our constitutional rights.”
