In a briefing hearing Monday afternoon, Judge Ton Graf of the Utah Fourth District Court announced his decision on two requests by Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old man arrested in the September 10 assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
Robinson had demanded to be allowed to appear in all court hearings in civilian clothing, and to be allowed to appear without any restraints, such as handcuffs or shackles.
Robinson’s legal team had claimed that if he had to appear in restraints or in jail clothing, that could influence the jury.
Graf did give permission for Robinson to wear civilian clothing to all court appearances, but denied the request for him to appear unrestrained.
The judge also banned the media from from recording or photographing Robinson entering or exiting the courtroom, to prevent images of him in restraints from being shared by the media.
