From Axios: The U.S. has indications that Iran is preparing to imminently launch a ballistic missile attack against Israel, a senior White House official tells Axios.

The big picture: Tehran has been vowing retaliation after a series of recent Israeli assassinations. The White House believes it is about to begin, and is already warning of “severe consequences” for Iran.

“We are actively supporting defensive preparations to defend Israel against this attack. A direct military attack from Iran against Israel will carry severe consequences for Iran,” the White House official said.

A senior Israeli official tells Axios the latest intelligence is that the attack will be carried out in the next few hours. The warning from the U.S. came at around noon local time (5am ET), the official said.

The report notes that Iran has been threatening to retaliate against Israel since the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31.

Over the past week, Israel has wiped out at least seven high-ranking Hezbollah officials and commanders in Lebanon, including the terror group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah.

Axios reporter Barak Ravid announced, “Senior White House Official tells me: “The United States has indications that Iran is preparing to imminently launch a ballistic missile attack against Israel.””

“Our air defense systems are fully prepared and air force jets are patrolling the sky. We are at peak readiness in offense and defense together with our partners from the U.S. and are following the developments in Iran together. An Iranian attack on Israel will have consequences,” declared Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Adm. Daniel Hagari.

The U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem just posted a security alert Tuesday morning which warns, “As a result of the current security situation, the U.S. Embassy has directed all U.S. government employees and their family members to shelter in place until further notice.”

FULL MESSAGE FROM BIBI TO THE CITIZENS OF THE STATE OF ISRAEL:

“Citizens of Israel, We are in the midst of a campaign against Iran’s axis of evil. I said yesterday that these are days of great achievements and great challenges.

“Great achievements because we thwarted Nasrallah and his top command and Hezbollah’s plan to occupy the Galilee. We are determined to return our residents in the North safely to their homes. But on the other hand, there are also significant challenges.

“What I ask of you is two things: One – to strictly obey the directives of the frontline command, it saves lives. And second – to stand together. We will stand firm together in the testing days ahead. Together we will stand, together we will fight and together we will win.”
