From Axios: Iran launched multiple missiles against American military bases in the Middle East on Monday in retaliation for the U.S. strike on its nuclear facilities this weekend.
At least 10 missiles were launched toward Qatar and at least one missile launched toward Iraq, according to an Israeli official.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council released a statement confirming the attack and claiming the number of missiles fired was equal to the number of bombs the U.S. used in its strike on Saturday.
“The base that was targeted in the attack by the powerful Iranian forces was far from urban facilities and residential areas in Qatar,” the statement said. “This action did not pose any threat to our friendly and brotherly country, Qatar, and its noble people.”

A spokesperson for the Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that Qatari air defenses “thwarted the attack and successfully intercepted the Iranian missiles.”
The spokesperson also condemned the strikes, saying Qatar “reserves the right to respond directly in a manner proportional to the nature and scale of this blatant aggression and in accordance with international law” and that Qatar considers the strikes “a flagrant violation of the State of Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace, as well as of international law and the United Nations Charter.”
The Al Udeid U.S. Air Force base on Qatar in the largest U.S. air base in the Middle East, and normally has about 10,000 troops stationed there. However, the air base has reportedly been almost completely evacuated in recent days, due to the threat of retaliatory attacks by Iran.
