BREAKING: Indictments announced, bomb suspects planned an attack bigger than Boston Marathon massacre

From the Daily Mail: The teenage ISIS-inspired bomb suspects planned an attack bigger than the deadly Boston Marathon massacre, federal charging documents revealed.

Ibrahim Kayumi and Emir Balat were charged on Monday with attempting to provide material support to ISIS, use of a weapon of mass destruction, and other crimes.

The pair were arrested on Saturday after throwing a homemade ‘Mother of Satan’ bomb outside the New York City mayor’s mansion during an anti-Islam protest.

Kayumi, 19, blurted out, as he was being arrested Saturday, that ‘ISIS’ was the reason for his conduct, according to the complaint.

Balat, 18, told authorities that he had pledged allegiance to the terrorist organization, and Kayumi asserted that he was affiliated with the Islamic State, the indictment said.

According to the indictment, while being questioned by NYPD investigators, Balat said, “All praise is due to Allah lord of all worlds! I pledge my allegiance to the Islamic State. Die in your rage yu [sic] kuffar! This isn’t a religion that just stands when people talk about the blessed name of the prophet… We take action!”

Investigating officers reportedly asked Balat whether he was trying to pull off an attack similar to the 2013 Boston marathon bombing. Balat brazenly replied, “No, even bigger!” and noted that only three people were killed in the Boston marathon bombing.

Along with his Pennsylvania driver’s license, Balat also had a Turkish government identification card with him.

The complaints revealed that an automated license plate reader captured the pair entering New York City from New Jersey less than an hour before the attack, driving a vehicle which is registered to one of Balat’s relatives.

The car was later found parked just a few blocks away from where they were arrested on Saturday. Inside the car, investigators found a ‘hobby fuse’ and a metal can, along with a written list of chemical ingredients and more bomb-building materials.

Ibraham Kayumi, 19, of Newton, Pennsylvania, and Emir Balat, 18, of Langhorne, Pennsylvania, were both indicted by the federal government on Monday. Their homes are both located in suburban Philadelphia.

The Daily Mail also explained that on Sunday, nearly a dozen federal agents stormed the $2.25 million home in Newtown where Kayumi lived, and one man was detained at the property. Kayumi’s parents are from Afghanistan and became naturalized US citizens in 2004 and 2009.

FBI agents also executed a search warrant and collected evidence at a $653,000 two-story home where Balat lived with his parents in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. Two men and a woman were taken into custody from that home. Balat’s parents were born in Turkey and became naturalized US citizens in 2017, and the 18-year-old is reportedly a U.S. citizen.

Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Monday, “We have charged the two alleged ISIS-inspired terrorists who attempted to bomb a protest in New York City. We will not allow ISIS’s poisonous, anti-American ideology to threaten this nation. Our law enforcement officers will remain vigilant.”

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch and other officials held a press conference Monday afternoon to announce federal charges have been filed against both the ISIS-inspired terrorists.

“He also told investigators that he had hoped to carry out an attack even bigger than the Boston Marathon bombing… This was a planned attack motivated by extremist ideology and inspired by a violent foreign terrorist organization,” Tisch said.

Jay Clayton, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced the charges against Emir Balat and Ibrahim Kayumi as:

  • Attempted provision of material support and resources to a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization
  • Use of a weapon of mass destruction
  • Transportation of explosive materials
  • Interstate transportation and receipt of explosives
  • Unlawful possession of destructive devices

Matt Van Swol, a former Nuclear Scientist for the US Dept of Energy, commented on Sunday, “TATP is literally known as “The Mother of Satan”… I’m not kidding, look it up. The terrorists must have built it wrong because that stuff is INSANELY volatile. You could bump it wrong and it would explode. If it was TATP, it’s a damn miracle that bomb didn’t go off.”
