In an appearance on The Will Cain Show with Fox News Tuesday afternoon, Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville, of Alabama, announced he is entering a new political campaign.

Tuberville is running for governor of Alabama.

Alabama’s current governor, Kay Ivey, 80, also a Republican, has served in the position since April 2017, and will be termed out at the end of her current term.

Tuberville, 70, a retired football coach, has served in U.S. Congress since January 2021.  Tuesday afternoon, Tuberville announced that instead of running for a second term in the senate in the 2026 elections, he will instead run for governor of Alabama.

“Today I will announce that I will be the future Governor of the great state of Alabama,” Tuberville declared.

“I’ve still got 18 months to go with President Trump to Make America Great Again. We’ve got a lot of work to do. Monday we’ll go back and pass the Big Beautiful Bill for President Trump,” he said.

“But I’m doing this to help this country and the great state of Alabama. I’m a football coach. I’m a leader. I’m a builder. I’m a recruiter. And we’re going to grow Alabama,” he vowed.
