BREAKING: Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi announces retirement plans

In a video announcement posted on social media Thursday morning, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced she will not be seeking re-election when her current term in Congress expires next year.

Pelosi, 85, a Democrat, has literally spent decades in Congress, having been in the House of Representatives since 1987. She is currently in the middle of her 20th term.

Prior to coming to Washington, D.C., Pelosi was the Chair of the California Democrat Party, from 1981 to 1983.

Pelosi was the first woman to be Speaker of the House, and held that role from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023.

Notably, Pelosi waited until AFTER the Tuesday night elections in multiple battleground states before she made the announcement that she will not be running for re-election.

In her retirement video, Pelosi staged it as a message to San Francisco.

“I want you, my fellow San Franciscans, to be the first to know I will not be seeking re-election to Congress,” Pelosi announced.

Pelosi, who frequently attacks President Donald Trump, prompted fury this week as she claimed that Trump is “just a vile creature, the worst thing on the face of the earth.”
