FROM FOX NEWS: The House Oversight committee on Friday released a transcript of its interview with the former U.S. attorney who initially negotiated a controversial plea deal with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Members of the oversight committee conducted the interview with Alex Acosta in late September, who previously served as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida. Included in the document release by the House Oversight Committee are flight manifests for Epstein’s private plane, which include Prince Andrew, Bill Gates, Walter Cronkite and Richard Branson. None of these individuals have been accused of any wrongdoing.
Former President Bill Clinton also appeared again in the Epstein flight manifests several times. On at least one flight in 2002, he traveled with Secret Service agents, the documents show. Clinton isn’t accused of any wrongdoing.
In 2008, Acosta provided assistance to Jeffrey Epstein in securing a plea agreement that obviated federal charges by entailing a 13-month incarceration sentence and a guilty plea to state charges. As part of the agreement, Epstein was required to register as a sex offender and compensate victims.
In justifying the plea agreement, Acosta asserted that the case against Epstein was beset with challenges that could potentially impede a conviction.
Acosta claimed that the state attorney in Florida “had let him off entirely.”
“And so our thinking at the time was, you know, the State attorney is letting him get away with this. The State attorney is asking pre-trial diversion. Unacceptable. Entirely unacceptable. But a billionaire going to jail sends a strong signal to the community that this is not acceptable, that this is not right, that this cannot happen,” Acosta said.
“We now have 12 years of knowledge and hindsight and we live in a very different world,” he said. “Today’s world treats victims very, very differently.”
Over nine X posts, the Oversight Committee wrote:
Acosta transcript just DESTROYED the Democrats’ Epstein–Trump smear. Ranking Member Garcia and @OversightDems have spent months pushing a LIE against President Trump.
Acosta NEVER talked to Trump about Epstein.
Not in person. Not on the phone. Not over email.
“He moved in circles that I did not move in.” (p. 65)
That’s straight from his testimony.
Trump’s name? Did not appear in the case. (p. 129)
“I have no knowledge of Donald Trump’s name appearing in any Epstein document … (or) being associated with the Epstein investigation in any way.”
“If there was, it’s pretty spectacular it hasn’t leaked by now.” (p. 130)
Did Trump appoint Acosta because of Epstein? No.
“Not in the least bit, no.” (p. 124)
Did Trump ask Acosta to resign? No.
“[It] was my choice. It was not suggested by anyone at the White House that I resign.” (p. 124)
This entire talking point was fabricated by Democrats.
Why did Acosta resign?
“If you become a distraction, then it’s not appropriate for you to serve in these jobs. … I did not want to be a distraction to his administration, and I chose to resign.” (p. 125)
The media and Democrats said he was forced out. Another lie.
What about Epstein’s sweetheart deal?
“We had an ASSURANCE that he would be in continuous confinement.” (p. 44)
“And had we known that he was going to get work release, this WOULD NOT have gone forward.” (p. 156)
Palm Beach betrayed that deal, and Epstein walked.
According to Acosta, the plea deal was about getting Epstein IN JAIL when a trial risked letting him off completely.
“The trial was a crapshoot, and we just wanted the guy to go to jail.” (p. 26)
Democrats knew this and lied anyway.
bottom line:
❌ No contact between Trump and Acosta
❌ No link between Trump and Epstein in the case
Democrats are once again using a tragic situation to try to score political points at the expense of the victims.
