From Fox News: A Chinese citizen was arrested after police said he repeatedly tried to get into former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach.
According to the Palm Beach Post, Zijie Li, 38, of El Monte, California, claimed that he had documents that tie his home country’s government to the July 13 assassination attempt on Trump during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was killed by Secret Service agents after the bullets he fired struck Trump’s ear, narrowly missing his skull, and hit three of his supporters, killing former Buffalo Township Fire Chief Corey Comperatore.
Following the assassination attempt, the Secret Service increased security around Trump’s estate and his other properties. The Palm Beach Post reported this also prompted the agency’s decision to close South Ocean Boulevard next to Mar-a-Lago, effective on July 20.
The report explains that Li first tried to get into Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate on the night of July 19. He drove his Toyota Prius right up to the estate’s main entrance and told Secret Service agents he had documents proving China was involved in the July 13 assassination attempt against Trump. At the time, Trump was in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention.
The agents reportedly slapped Li with a written warning for trespassing and told him if he came back, he would be arrested.
Then, on July 22, Li returned to Palm Beach, and was seen on the town’s security cameras twice, first in the morning, then again that afternoon.
On July 30, he was caught again driving toward a security checkpoint near Mar-a-Lago. Police stopped him because he was blocking traffic, and noticed he had the Mar-a-Lago estate’s address on his GPS system.
Shockingly, Li was released again, and reportedly left town, but an hour later he returned, and his car was seen again on South Ocean Boulevard, near Mar-a-Lago. Both police and Secret Service agents again stopped him and told him to leave.
Li was finally stopped again and arrested at an intersection north of Mar-a-Lago on Wednesday, July 31.
Local 12 News reported: Li was booked on counts of Trespassing after warning and is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail. Li’s bond was bumped up from $250 to $10,000, sending a clear message that security breaches will be taken seriously.
