Law enforcement sources told The New York Post that Charlie Kirk’s alleged shooter, Tyler Robinson, was living with a transgender partner transitioning from male to female.
The partner, first reported by Fox News’ Brooke Singman, is cooperating fully with the FBI investigation. Messages exchanged between Robinson, 22, and the transgender partner helped federal agents initially capture the accused assassin.
At a Friday press conference, authorities had said a cooperating roommate shared messages from “Tyler” describing bullet casings like those at the scene and plans to retrieve a rifle from a drop point.
Kirk, the 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent conservative activist, was fatally shot during a speaking event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The incident occurred as Kirk was addressing a crowd of around 3,000 people as part of his “American Comeback Tour,” where he was shot once in the neck from a rooftop position, allegedly by Robinson. Utah Governor Spencer Cox and law enforcement have labeled the shooting as a “political assassination.”
Robinson was arrested in St. George, Utah, after his family alerted officials following his confession to his father. Robinson, who had no prior criminal history but had reportedly become more politically active, is believed to have acted alone at the moment.
President Donald Trump condemned the killing as a “heinous assassination”. He announced plans to posthumously award Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, while Vice President JD Vance traveled to Utah to support Kirk’s family and carried his casket with service members. Vigils were held across the country, including in Orem and Kirk’s hometown of Phoenix, Arizona, where mourners left flowers, candles, and American flags in his memory.
As of September 13, 2025, Robinson remains in custody on charges of aggravated murder, with the FBI continuing to investigate potential motives tied to ideological differences.
