In a press conference around 10:30 CT Wednesday morning, authorities provided news details on the shooting attack at an ICE detention facility in Dallas.
Dallas Police said they received a 911 call at 6:40 a.m. Wednesday morning about a shooting at the ICE facility. A sniper, armed with a rifle, reportedly fired from a nearby rooftop into an unmarked van which was arriving with multiple illegal alien detainees.
The shooter reportedly shot three people, killing one, and then turned the gun on himself, and died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The other two people shot were reportedly rushed to the hospital.
Dallas ICE Acting Field Office Director Josh Johnson said, “This is the second time I’ve had to talk about a shooter at one of my facilities. The take away from all of this is the rhetoric has to stop. It’s dangerous and people are losing their lives.”
Special FBI agent Joe Rothrock announced that the shooting is being investigated as an act of targeted violence, and said casings found near the shooter contained anti-ICE messages, implying this was directed specifically at ICE.
Although authorities would not release identities on who was shot, they did confirm that no officers or ICE agents were injured, implying that those shot inside the vehicle were detainees.
FBI Director Kash Patel posted a photo of unspent shell casings found on the roof near the shooter, which contain anti-ICE messages. He wrote:
This morning just before 7am local time, an individual fired multiple rounds at a Dallas, Texas ICE facility, killing one, wounding several others, before taking his own life. FBI, DHS, ATF are on the ground with Dallas PD and state authorities.
While the investigation is ongoing, an initial review of the evidence shows an idealogical motive behind this attack (see photo below). One of the unspent shell casings recovered was engraved with the phrase “ANTI ICE.” More updates will be forthcoming.
These despicable, politically motivated attacks against law enforcement are not a one-off. We are only miles from Prarieland Texas where just two months ago an individual ambushed a separate ICE facility targeting their officers. It has to end and the FBI and our partners will lead the these investigative efforts to see to it that those who target our law enforcement are pursued and brought to the fullest extent of justice.
Thankfully, no law enforcement personnel were injured. Please pray for the injured and deceased.

Fox 4 News reported:
FBI sources told FOX 4 the shooter was on the roof of the law firm building behind the Dallas ICE facility and fired into an unmarked van with an ATF driver that was bringing detainees to the facility.
Investigators believe they know the identity of the shooter, but they are still working to confirm and verify that information before releasing his name to the public.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) also spoke at the press conference, and voiced his outrage at politicians who are using rhetoric demonizing ICE and CBP agents, and inspiring madmen to commit the deadly shootings.
“This needs to STOP!” he demanded.
“We need to learn to work together without attacking each other. Your political opponents are NOT nazis. The divisive rhetoric has real consequences. We should not be putting language out there that inspires madmen to commit violent crimes,” Cruz said.
This needs to stop.

The Fort Worth Police Department wrote, “The violence that occurred in Dallas, TX this morning is uncalled for and moments like this are deeply disturbing as it creates more division in our community at a time when the focus needs to be on how we can come together. We continue to ask our community that if you see something, say something.”

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott wrote in a post on X, “Texas fully supports ICE 💯 Both the Texas Dept. of Public Safety & Texas National Guard work closely with ICE. This assassination will NOT slow our arrest, detention, & deportation of illegal immigrants. We will work with ICE & the Dallas Police Dept. to get to the bottom of the assassin’s motive. We will offer ICE additional support to assist their operations.”
