In a press conference early Monday morning Australia time, (Sunday afternoon in the US), authorities in New South Wales, Australia said the death toll and victim count has risen, and provided an update on the deadly Islamic terror attack that occurred Sunday at Bondi Beach, where a large crowd had gathered for a Jewish holiday celebration.
A total of 15 innocent people have now died from the horrific massacre, including a child. Also dead is one of the two gunmen, who police shot.
Another 42 people were injured in the attack, ranging in age from 10 to 87.
New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon identified the gunmen as a 50-year-old father and his 24-year-old son. Police shot both gunmen to end the attack. The father was killed, and the son, identified as Naveed Akram, is currently hospitalized in critical but stable condition with unspecified injuries. The father and son terrorists are Pakistani nationals, CBS News confirmed.
From Fox News: The father was a licensed gun owner with six legally registered firearms. All six of the firearms have been recovered, with some being recovered at the scene. The others were located and recovered when investigators executed search warrants at two separate locations, police said.
In an indication that the two terrorists had planned for something even worse, police said they discovered multiple “improvised explosive devices” in a vehicle near the scene of the attack.
The pair reportedly draped an ISIS flag across the front window of their car after they arrived at the scene, and then began their shooting rampage, firing down on the Jewish crowd on the beach.

While officials did acknowledge the attack as terrorism, they never uttered the words “Islamic terrorism.” Instead, they simply condemned anti-Semitism in all its forms and declared there is no room for hate in Australia.
Below is a video of the latest press conference.
Among the wounded was prominent Jewish leader, international human rights lawyer and chair of the Israel Australia Jewish Council, Arsen Ostrovsky, who had just moved to Australia a couple weeks earlier from Israel, where he had lived for the past 13 years. He is a survivor of the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas terror attack in Israel, and now just barely survived another Islamic terror attack.
Ostrovsky was shot in the head, but says he will be ok. He shared a photo of himself lying on the ground, his head and face covered in blood. Story below:
