From CBS News: Minnesota officials say that all “No Kings” events in Minnesota on Saturday are canceled immediately as authorities search for a gunman who killed Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman and wounded another lawmaker in two targeted shootings overnight.

The cancellations come after the shootings targeting the homes of DFL Sen. John Hoffman and DFL Speaker Emerita Hortman. Gov. Tim Walz has since said Hortman and her husband are dead, and Hoffman and his wife are wounded following the “politically motivated” shooting.

“Out of an abundance of caution and in adherence to guidance from Governor Walz and the Minnesota State Patrol, all remaining No Kings events in Minnesota are being canceled immediately. This decision comes in light of the ongoing shelter-in-place order and the tragic shooting that targeted two elected officials and their spouses. We are doing this in accordance with local and state guidance given the suspect is still at large impersonating a police officer,” a spokesperson with the No Kings coalition said. “Our hearts are with the victims, their families, and the communities shaken by this violence. We are in close contact with our hosts, attendees, and state and local officials and remain committed to ensuring all other events around the country proceed peacefully and safely.”

The Minnesota State Patrol earlier urged the public to stay away from any of Saturday’s planned “No Kings” protests because fliers for events were found in the suspect’s vehicle. Officials say a “manifesto” with the names of other politicians, including U.S. Sen. Tina Smith, was also inside.

The “No Kings” demonstrations have been promoted in cities across the entire nation for Saturday, and are being advertised on the group’s website as a “nationwide day of defiance” against President Trump.

The Minnesota State Patrol posted a photo of a pile of “No Kings” flyers found inside the suspect’s vehicle, and wrote, “Given the targeted shootings of state lawmakers overnight, we are asking the public to not attend today’s planned demonstrations across Minnesota out of an abundance of caution.”

It is still unclear whether the suspect was in support of or in opposition to the “No Kings” anti-Trump protests.

Officials said at a press conference earlier Saturday morning that the suspect also left a “manifesto” in his car with a hit list of multiple other politicians.
