From ABC News: Two Minnesota state lawmakers were shot in apparent “targeted” incidents on Saturday that left them in grave condition, officials said, and a manhunt is now underway for the gunman.
A source familiar with the matter tells ABC News that the victims are state Sen. John Hoffman and state Rep. Melissa Hortman.
Both were shot at their homes and authorities believe the shooter was impersonating law enforcement, the source said.
The two shooting locations were about 8 miles away from each other in Champlin and Brooklyn Park, just north of Minneapolis.
Both Hoffman and Hortman are Democrats. Hortman is the former Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives.
The shootings reportedly happened around 2:00 to 3:00 a.m. on Saturday.
At a press conference Saturday morning, officials said Hortman and her husband were both shot and killed.
Hoffman and his wife were also shot, have undergone surgeries at the hospital, and are both still alive at this time.
Police said Hoffman and his wife were shot first, around 2 a.m. In responding to that scene, another call came in from Hortman’s home. When they got to her home at 3:35 a.m., what looked like a police car was in the driveway, and what appeared to be an officer was at the door. When he saw the police, he fired at them, then ran inside the house, and fled out the back door.
Both Hortman and her husband were found dead.
law enforcement officials say they made a proactive check at Rep. Hortman’s home after a lawmaker who lived nearby was shot and found a “police vehicle in the driveway with emergency lights and what appeared to be a police officer at the door coming out of the house.” He was… pic.twitter.com/fNnoRa0Bw9

A manhunt is now underway for the suspect, who was impersonating a police officer, wearing a vest, a badge and had a Taser. Police have his car, so he is believed to still be on foot.

Police say the shooting was politically motivated, as they found a manifesto left inside the suspect’s vehicle, with a hit list of multiple other politicians.
Hortman recently broke from her party to vote with Republicans to repeal free healthcare for illegal alien adults. It is undetermined whether that is related to the shootings.
