There’s one very good reason why Mexico leaders are so vehemently opposed to the crackdown on illegal immigration into the United States: remittances being sent back to Mexico by illegal aliens inside the United States is literally fueling the economy in Mexico.
Those remittances have literally doubled from what they were during the Trump administration, to what they are now under the Biden administration.
According to the Associated Press, money sent back home by Mexicans living in the U.S. was around $33.5 billion in 2018.
This week, the Associated Press reported that remittances sent back to Mexico in 2023 was a whopping $63 billion.
In December of last year, then-Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador threw a fit over a new Texas law allowing state law enforcement to arrest suspected illegal aliens, which he called “inhumane.”
Now, Mexico’s current president, Claudia Sheinbaum, is quite literally singing the praises of the illegal aliens from her country who are inside the U.S. The AP reported this week:
Mexico’s president on Wednesday unveiled a bilingual “hymn” to Mexican migrants living in the United States, even as migrants from other countries continue to suffer abuses, delays and hostility in Mexico.
President Claudia Sheinbaum used her morning news briefing to present the song “Migrant Hymn.” The lyrics, a mix of English and Spanish, include lines like “where we are from, no nos rajamos” (we don’t give up).
Sheinbaum called Mexican migrants “heroes,” in part because they sent $63 billion back home to relatives in Mexico last year.
Stressing migrants’ loyalty to Mexico, the song says “Cambiamos de lugar, no de bandera” (we change our location, not our flag).
The report also admits that Mexican police are literally escorting migrants to the U.S. border, to protect them from the cartels:
On the same day the hymn was unveiled, a migrant shelter in the northern border city of Reynosa announced it could no longer accept newcomers, because gangs were kidnapping so many migrants from its doorstep.
Rev. Héctor Silva, who runs the Senda de la Vida (Path of Life) in Reynosa, across from McAllen, Texas, said the situation is so dangerous in the cartel-dominated border city that police escort migrants to appointments for their U.S. asylum applications.
During her press conference on Wednesday, Mexican President Sheinbaum had the musical group to perform the “Migrant Hymn” praising Mexicans who are now living in the United States.

Sheinbaum then posted a video performance of the song by the musical group on social media and wrote, “We present the Migrant Anthem, by the Legado de Grandeza collective. Because it is their day, we have prepared this gift with all our hearts for our fellow countrymen who are on the other side of the border.”

Mexico’s Secretary of Agriculture also posted the video, and wrote, “We share the Migrant Anthem, by the Legado de Grandeza collective. We recognize the work and contributions of all those on the other side of the border.”

Just to make sure the message gets out that Mexico appreciates all their people who are now living inside the United States and sending back money, Sheinbaum also posted the video on YouTube.
