From the Texas Scorecard: President Donald Trump’s Department of Homeland Security has repealed several memos by former DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ that limited the actions of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
One of the most significant memos rescinded by Trump’s DHS was from 2021 and expanded the list of places, called “protected areas,” where ICE agents were restricted from enforcing immigration policy. The list had been lengthened to include schools, universities, healthcare institutions, and several others.
The memo was replaced on Monday with one that states officers should use “discretion along with a healthy dose of common sense.”
“It is not necessary, however, for the head of the agency to create bright-line rules regarding where our immigration laws are permitted to be enforced,” it continued.
Fox News wrote in a separate report: ICE agents who spoke to Fox News said they believe that rescinding the Mayorkas order is going to free them up to go after more illegal immigrants, because illegal immigrants have until now been able to hide near schools and churches and avoid arrest.

News Nation correspondent Ali Bradley announced Thursday that apprehensions at the border are plummeting since Trump was sworn into office.
The so-called “Trump Effect” is in full swing down here at the border as Border Patrol encounters plummeted in the first few days of his presidency:
- 1/17-1/19: BP: 4,000
- 1/20-1/21: BP: 1,940
- 1/22 (as of approx 8pm) BP: 440
This as at least 470 illegal immigrants were arrested by ICE ERO in the first two days according to data obtained via DHS sources.
Sources telling me, “Welcome to the Trump effect…” “This is what it’s supposed to look like.”
