While signing a series of Executive Orders in the Oval Office Wednesday afternoon, President Donald Trump signed a memorandum ordering the Justice Department to launch an investigation into former DHS official Miles Taylor, who wrote an anonymous essay admitting he was working on the inside to thwart Trump’s agenda during his first term in office.
The mysterious op-ed, published in the New York Times on September 5, 2018, was titled, “I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration… I work for the president but like-minded colleagues and I have vowed to thwart parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations.”
The op-ed delivers scorching criticism of President Trump, and reads: “The dilemma — which he does not fully grasp — is that many of the senior officials in his own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations. I would know. I am one of them.”
On October 28, 2020, Taylor finally admitted he was the author of the scandalous anti-Trump essay.

On November 7, 2024, two days after Trump won the presidential election to serve a second term, Taylor published another essay in the New York Times and literally encouraged other anti-Trump Republicans to embed themselves in the new Trump administration. He wrote:
IN 2018, as a member of the first Trump administration, I anonymously published an opinion essay in The Times warning that President Donald Trump was unstable and a danger to “the health of our Republic”.
At the time, I was a senior official in the Department of Homeland Security grappling with Trump’s worst excesses. (I eventually became chief of staff for the department.) I quit the administration in 2019 and openly campaigned against Trump, a decision that resulted in a flurry of threats to my physical safety that required me to relocate to a safe house with an armed guard.
My advice to fellow conservatives ahead of Trump’s return to the presidency is not to run from him, as some might say they should. Instead, I urge them to join him, as I once did.
“Republicans with integrity cannot turn away from the difficult years ahead. They should step forward and serve in the executive branch out of dedication to the principles that hold this country together, however tenuously,” @MilesTaylorUSA writes.

CONSEQUENCES: President Trump signed the presidential memorandum Wednesday, suspending any active security clearance held by Miles Taylor and his associates and ordering a review of Taylor’s activities as a government employee.
Trump said Taylor was a traitor, and compared his actions to treason.

“I said this would happen. Dissent isn’t unlawful. It certainly isn’t treasonous. America is headed down a dark path. Never has a man so inelegantly proved another man’s point,” Taylor sneered in response to Trump’s announcement on Wednesday.

Below is the Fact Sheet posted on the White House website explaining the Memorandum about Taylor:
RECLAIMING GOVERNMENT INTEGRITY: Today, President Donald J. Trump signed a Presidential Memorandum suspending any active security clearance held by Miles Taylor and his associates.
- The Order directs the head of every federal agency to immediately suspend any active security clearance held by Taylor.
- The Order also suspends any active security clearance held by individuals at entities associated with Taylor, including the University of Pennsylvania, pending a review of whether such clearances are consistent with the national interest.
- Furthermore, the Order calls for a review of Taylor’s activities as a government employee to identify any instances where his conduct appears to have been contrary to suitability standards for federal employees or involved the unauthorized dissemination of classified information.
ERADICATING GOVERNMENT BETRAYAL: President Trump is committed to ending the weaponization of government and believes that those who engage in such conduct should not have access to our nation’s secrets.
- Taylor is a bad-faith actor who weaponized and abused his government position, prioritizing his own ambition, personal notoriety, and monetary gain over fidelity to his constitutional oath.
- While serving as an administrative staff assistant at the Department of Homeland Security, Taylor stoked dissension by manufacturing sensationalist reports on the existence of a supposed “resistance” within the federal government that “vowed” to undermine and render effective a sitting President.
- Taylor published a book under the pseudonym “Anonymous,” full of falsehoods and fabricated stories.
- Taylor disclosed sensitive information obtained through unauthorized methods and betrayed the confidence of those with whom he served.
- Taylor relied upon various colleagues to facilitate his unethical laundering and release of sensitive government data to advance his false narratives.
DRAINING THE SWAMP: President Trump is delivering on his promise to drain the swamp by rooting out inefficiency, corruption, and disloyalty.
- President Trump already suspended the security clearances held by numerous other individuals who have engaged in conduct detrimental to American interests.
- He is ensuring taxpayer funds do not go to anti-American activists and is declassifying records related to alleged government misconduct, providing transparency to the public.
- The Trump Administration is aggressively investigating Biden-era programs that wasted billions of taxpayer dollars on inefficient and politically-driven projects, including canceling unnecessary government contracts and grants that do not serve the national interest.
- President Trump is restoring trust in government by prioritizing loyalty to the Constitution and the American people over entrenched bureaucratic interests.

Katie Miller, who also served during the first Trump administration and is the wife of Trump advisor Stephen Miller, commented on the news.
“Miles Taylor is a traitor to his county and a traitor to his former colleagues. I caught him on numerous occasions leaking information from CBP and DHS to the Legacy Media. He created fake stories to become a celebrity of the DC uniparty. There is no one more deserving of this action than Miles. Bad people always have a day of reckoning. Hope you enjoy it @MilesTaylorUSA,” she wrote.
