Throughout the day on Monday, President Donald Trump went on a social media binge, blasting out copies of letters as he announced tariffs against a number of countries.

The president started out by posting copies of letters to the leaders of Japan and South Korea.

White House Deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai shared copies of the letters on X, and wrote:

Last year, America had a combined $135 billion goods trade DEFICIT w/ Japan & South Korea – deficits fueled by their unfair trade barriers.

To finally level the playing field for America, President Trump is HIKING the current 10% tariff on Japan & South Korea to 25% on Aug 1.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt then announced during a press briefing, “There will be approximately 12 other countries that will receive notifications and letters directly from the President… The administration, the President, and his trade team want to cut the best deals for the American people and the American worker.”

Sure enough, more letters were soon blasted out, announcing additional tariffs on the following countries:

  • Malaysia
  • Lao People’s Democratic Republic
  • Kazakhstan
  • South Africa
  • Tunisia
  • Serbia
  • Cambodia
  • Bangladesh
