While speaking with reporters in the Oval Office Friday afternoon, President Donald Trump signed two executive orders designed to crack down on the massive numbers of legal immigrants coming to the United States, and instead creating a path for more qualified people who could contribute to the good of the country.
Trump introduced a new program called the Gold Card visa program, which allows foreigners “of extraordinary ability” to come to the U.S., for a fee of $1 million, or a $2 million sponsorship fee.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick explained, “Historically, the employment-based Green Card program let in 281,000 people a year…they were 5x more likely to go on assistance programs of the government. We were taking in the bottom quartile…We’re going to only take extraordinary people at the very top.”

Trump also signed a proclamation to restrict the number of people entering the United States on an H-1B visa.
Any company wishing to sponsor H-1B workers into the U.S. will now have to fork over a $100,000 annual fee for each worker.
It was explained that the H-1B visa program is highly abused. The increased fee is intended to insure that the foreign workers are highly skilled, and will discourage companies from easily replacing American workers with foreign labor.
