From Fox News: Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned that the federal government will yank tens of millions of dollars from New York state if they do not “come into compliance” with rules pertaining to the granting of commercial driver’s licenses.
Duffy indicated that the state has 30 days to get in line.
“Fifty-three percent of New York’s non-domiciled CDLs were issued unlawfully or illegally,” he said during a press conference on Friday.
“I am going to give New York 30 days… to come into compliance… If New York refuses to come into compliance…we are going to pull tens of millions of dollars,” Duffy warned.
In a post on X, he added, “We’re holding New York accountable for issuing non-domicile commercial driver’s licenses to truckers illegally. FULL STOP. We’re giving New York 30 days to comply or we’ll withhold $73 MILLION! The safety of the American people comes first🇺🇸.”

Sharing another video clip from his press briefing, Duffy wrote, “@GovKathyHochul is jeopardizing driver safety EVERYWHERE by granting illegal immigrants commercial driver licenses. More than HALF of New York’s non-domiciled CDLs were issued ILLEGALLY. What’s worse, New York often fails to verify drivers’ legal status. @USDOT is taking action to end the recklessness TODAY 🛑”

Sharing a video from a Fox News interview, Duffy said, “States are giving commercial driver’s licenses out like candy and it’s unacceptable! They MUST comply with our common sense laws—or risk losing funding. Americans should not be worried that the truck drivers driving next to them were ILLEGALLY issued their CDL!”
