From the New York PostPrince William’s longtime friend, Sunjay Kapur, has died at age 53 after swallowing a bee, which triggered a fatal heart attack.

The billionaire businessman and chairman of global car parts giant Sona Comstar collapsed during a polo match in England on Thursday, the Mirror reports.

Kapur, who was the former husband of Bollywood superstar Karisma Kapoor, was stung by a bee on the mouth, which subsequently triggered anaphylactic shock that caused his heart to stop, the outlet added.

Experts say internal stings can be deadly as they can cause immediate swelling, blockage of the airways and a sudden drop in blood pressure, resulting in cardiac arrest.

A witness told The Telegraph that while playing polo in Windsor, Kapur said, “I’ve swallowed something.”

One person told The Mirror, “He was full of life, laughing, joking, then gone in an instant.”

People.com reported:

According to the Mayo Clinic, anaphylaxis causes the immune system to release chemicals that can cause a person to go into shock. “Blood pressure drops suddenly, and the airways narrow, blocking breathing. Signs and symptoms include a rapid, weak pulse; a skin rash; and nausea and vomiting. Common triggers include certain foods, some medications, insect venom and latex,” the Mayo Clinic explains.

Kapur was an avid polo player and often played with members of the British royal family, including Prince William.

Kapur’s final post on X, just hours before his fatal bee sting, was to pay tribute to the 241 victims of the Air India airplane crash.

“Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour. 🙏 #planecrash,” he wrote.

Another “Monday Motivation” post by Kapur on Monday, June 9, is now being viewed as prophetic.  He shared a quote which says, “Your time on Earth is limited. Leave the ‘what ifs’ to the philosophers and instead dive headfirst into the ‘why nots.'”

Kapur’s death has rocked both Britain and India, and tributes are pouring in on social media.

Vivek Vikram, a colleague at Sona Comstar, wrote, “My best friend in this world, Sunjay @sunjaykapur, is gone. He passed away suddenly in the UK a few hours ago. While a more formal communication from the company will follow, but right now I do not have any words left in me.”

In February, Kapur was just honoured with the prestigious Hurun India’s Most Respected Entrepreneur Awards 2025 for ‘Excellence in Automotive Innovation And Global Impact’.
