A man near Dallas, Texas definitely picked the wrong location to rob Sunday afternoon.

From Breitbart: An unidentified man died at the scene after allegedly trying to rob an off-duty officer’s property in Weatherford, Texas, and being shot dead by that officer.

NBC DFW reported that the incident occurred around 1 p.m. in a warehouse which belonged to the off-duty officer.

CBS News noted that the Texas Department of Public Safety indicated “a business was being burglarized… and the business owner stopped the burglary.”

HERE’S WHAT THE MEDIA ISN’T REPORTING:

According to a press release by DFW Scanner, the suspect tried to run over the off-duty officer, but none of the media reporting on the incident is mentioning this key detail. The press release reads:

Initial reports indicate a business owner, who is also an off-duty police officer, arrived at his building to find a man loading items from the business to his vehicle. The officer attempted to stop the intruder, but he got into his vehicle and attempted to run over the business owner/off-duty officer, leading him to shoot the intruder.

The alleged burglar was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to CLEAT, the off-duty officer is with Arlington Police Department. The Texas Rangers will be assisting Weatherford PD with the investigation due to the involvement of an off-duty officer. This is an ongoing investigation.

Weatherford is a small Texas town just west of Fort Worth. The police officer who owns the property that was burglarized serves on the Arlington Police force. He has now been placed on leave while the incident is being investigated, which is standard procedure for any officer-involved shooting.

The off-duty officer was not injured.
