President Joe Biden offered high praise for Vice President Kamala Harris during the Democratic National Committee’s holiday reception in Washington, D.C., suggesting she still has a future in presidential politics despite President-elect Trump’s upcoming inauguration on January 20.

“I knew what I was doing when I asked her to be my vice president,” Biden told the crowd. “She always served this country with purpose and integrity, and she always will. And you’re not going anywhere, kid — because we’re not going to let you go.”

Harris has not revealed her next steps, but unnamed allies and sources told the Washington Post she may launch an independent political group to maintain her email list, fundraise for Democrats, and embark on a speaking tour. Despite last month’s historic defeat, where Democrats lost the popular vote and all swing states to Trump, her supporters are preparing for a potential comeback in 2028.

“She is ending this race in a very different place than other nominees that have lost,” claimed one Harris adviser in the WaPo report. “Her approval is higher. People were very happy with the race that she ran. She reached people that she never would have reached as the vice president on the ticket. Do the same rules apply as previous nominees that have lost? Nobody knows.”

Another Harris adviser claimed she has received an outpouring of support, particularly from young supporters, encouraging her to continue her political career. An additional adviser also claimed she might consider a 2026 run for California governor after Gov. Gavin Newsom reaches his term limit (with some reports suggesting he may run in 2028).
