From Breitbart: Radio shock jock Howard Stern’s show with SiriusXM will reportedly end its revolutionary run after 20 years. Sources close to the radio program confirmed the cancelation to The Sun.
“Stern’s contract is up in the fall and while Sirius is planning to make him an offer, they don’t intend for him to take it,” an insider confirmed to the outlet.
Stern will likely cut a deal with Sirius to keep his catalogue.
“Sirius and Stern are never going to meet on the money he is going to want. It’s no longer worth the investment,” the source added. “But as far as him coming back to doing the show, there’s no way they can keep paying his salary.”
As Stern’s controversial show is taking its last breath, the situation has been compared to what happened to CBS and Stephen Colbert – the cost is too high, even for an iconic staple.
“After you saw what happened with Stephen Colbert, it’s like they just can’t afford to keep him going,” the source told The Sun. “If Sirius isn’t going to give Stern a good offer, I don’t think it would have anything to do with his ratings. It’s more likely everything to do with the political climate.”
Breitbart notes the extremely political stance Stern has taken, including “repeatedly express[ing] disdain for Trump and his supporters, even going so far to admit he hated those who voted for the former president.”
They quote Stern as saying, “This whole idea of you like me, you are good, and if you don’t, you are bad… I’ve been the victim of this. I don’t agree with Trump politically, I don’t think he should be anywhere near the White House. I don’t hate the guy. I hate the people who vote for him. I think they’re stupid. I do. I’ll be honest with you, I have no respect for you.”
Some conservatives have rponded to the news, pointing out that Stern said he didn’t want MAGA viewers and noting that he now has a ratings issue.
“Last year, Howard Stern said he ‘hated’ anyone who voted for Donald Trump and demanded they stop listening to his Radio Show. Today, it’s been announced that SiriusXM has CANCELED ‘The Howard Stern Show’ after his Ratings plummeted. FAFO, Howard!” wrote on delighted X user.
“Howard Stern said he didn’t want MAGA people listening to his show, he doesn’t have to worry about that now. He doesn’t have a show now,” wrote another.
Robby Starbuck commented, “A new case of go woke, go broke: Howard Stern’s going to be cancelled at SiriusXM when his contract ends. In recent years Stern said he hates Trump voters, that he thinks we’re stupid and that he would deny unvaccinated people hospital care if it was up to him. FAFO @HowardStern.”
Another user, Jason Rantz on KTTH Radio, explained why he no longer listens to Stern’s show: “Not for nothing, but Howard Stern became unlistenable. I tried to ignore the political and woke stuff but it infected every aspect of the show. A sad conclusion(?) to a broadcast legend who, 30 years ago, would have made fun of the broadcaster he became.
