Two Somali citizens in Tucson, Ahmed Mahad Mohamed, 26, and Abdi Yemeni Hussein, 25, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to support ISIS.
From late 2018 until their arrest on July 26, 2019, they planned to travel to Egypt to fight for ISIS in the Sinai Peninsula. Mohamed sought ISIS supporters online, expressing desires to become “the beheading guy” and a martyr.
The pair met in 2019 to finalize plans, with Hussein suggesting they attack the White House if they couldn’t reach ISIS territory. The FBI arrested them at Tucson International Airport before they could board their flight.
Both will be deported to Somalia after serving their sentences. Sentencing is set for October 11.
