From Fox News: A popular French street music festival has resulted in a slew of syringe attacks — prompting authorities to investigate.

Twelve suspects have been detained after 145 festival go-ers reported being pricked while at the Fête de la Musique, according to France 24 with AFP news. The attacks occurred across the Paris region.

Multiple paramedical resources were mobilized, according to French outlet Le Républicain Lorrain.

The victims were mostly female, according to multiple reports. Concerns were voiced that the needles may have been spiked with “date-rape drugs”, but that has not yet been confirmed.

One video posted to social media also shows a young man, who appears to be Middle Eastern, violently kicking a woman in the head.

Another video from the festival shows fights breaking out. X user RadioRama wrote, “You can call me a racist, but the truth is that only young people from immigrant backgrounds are causing trouble. #FetedelaMusique #Chatelet.”

François Grosdidier, the mayor of Metz, France, announced in a Facebook post:

!! ️💉 Injection assaults: a worrying phenomenon that affects all of France…

🎥⚠️ This morning, I intervened in the TF1 morning to talk about the stabbing assaults that happened on Saturday, on the occasion of the Music Festival.

⛔️👉🏻 Like many cities in France, Ville de Metz was not spared by these cowardly aggressions. 17 young girls (aged 14-20) were targeted as they were simply out to enjoy the evening. Nearly 150 women across the country…

❌👎🏻 A few weeks ago, I was already denouncing the offenders who had spoiled the PSG final. This time, it was disturbed people who deliberately picked up women and teenagers who came to share a festive moment, without asking anyone for anything.

🙏🏻 I express all my solidarity to those who have suffered these deeply traumatic assaults.

The New York Times wrote:

The Fête de la Musique has been an annual event in France for more than four decades. Musicians of all abilities are encouraged to perform on sidewalks, in parks and other public spaces on June 21 — the summer solstice — and free concerts are staged across the country as well as in France’s overseas territories.

Before the festival, posts circulated on social media calling for such attacks on women, according to Le Monde and other French news outlets.
