Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) addressed a crowd of supporters on Friday, attempting to highlight the positives of his campaign after losing as the Democratic vice presidential nominee.

“Even in the face of defeat and deep disappointment, I’ve never felt more inspired. I’ve never felt more motivated,” Walz said. “I’ve never felt more fired up for what’s possible in this country.”

“I’ve made a lot of new friends. I ate way too much local food, but I can order doughnuts. People, I can order doughnuts,” added Walz, referencing a viral campaign stop vice president-elect JD Vance made in Georgia.

Walz also added: “Everywhere I went, without exception, people really wanted the same basic things out of an American life. When I say basic things, I mean things like meaningful work, safe neighborhoods, good schools, affordable quality healthcare.”

Exit polls indicate that President-elect Trump gained support from voters focused on the economy and inflation. Walz pledged to address these issues collaboratively, acknowledging Americans’ concerns from his campaign across states.

“And now that this election is behind us, I’m going to try even harder to keep an open mind, open heart and really listen to folks who don’t support me or my policies and work with everyone in the legislature to seek compromising common ground,” said Walz.

The governor’s daughter, Hope Walz, posted her reaction to her father’s election loss in viral TikTok videos. One video with her brother Gus while she is driving and filming herself with a cell phone, and another stating Americans “don’t deserve Kamala Harris.”

Gwen Walz also led a crowd of supporters following her husband’s defeat with chants about not “giving up the fight.”
