Political commentator Mark Halperin has urged Democratic lawmakers to join Republicans in investigating the alleged concealment of former President Joe Biden’s health issues.
Speaking on Fox News’ “One Nation,” Halperin emphasized that such an inquiry would serve the nation’s interest and could help restore public trust in the Democratic Party. He suggested that Democrats’ involvement in the investigation might also be politically beneficial, as it could address concerns about their credibility regarding transparency.
“I think it’d be great politics and great for the country for Ron Johnson and the other Republicans on Capitol Hill talking about investigating to invite Democrats to make it a bipartisan investigation. And then let’s see what Democrats do,” said Halperin.
Halperin’s call comes amid revelations from the book “Original Sin” by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson, which alleges that the Biden White House actively managed perceptions of the president’s health during his tenure. The book claims that efforts were made to obscure signs of Biden’s cognitive and physical decline, particularly during his re-election campaign, which ultimately did not succeed.
In response to these allegations, the House Oversight Committee, led by Chairman James Comer (R-KY), has initiated an investigation into the matter. Comer has sent interview requests to four former Biden White House aides to examine their roles in potentially concealing the president’s health issues from the public and the media. The committee’s inquiry aims to determine the extent of any efforts to mislead the public about Biden’s fitness for office.

Halperin believes that a bipartisan approach to the investigation would be advantageous. He argues that Democratic participation would not only demonstrate a commitment to accountability but also allow the party to distance itself from any alleged misconduct. By engaging in the inquiry, Democrats could help ensure a comprehensive understanding of the situation and reinforce the importance of transparency in government.
The ongoing investigation by the House Oversight Committee seeks to uncover the truth about the former president’s health and any potential efforts to conceal it. As the inquiry progresses, the involvement of both parties could play a crucial role in addressing public concerns and upholding the integrity of the nation’s leadership.
