BREAKING: Supreme Court casts doubt on Trump’s order to end birthright citizenship, Trump posts reaction

From CBS News: The Supreme Court on Wednesday appeared skeptical of President Trump’s bid to end birthright citizenship, hearing arguments in a high-stakes case that tests one of the pillars of the president’s immigration agenda.

A majority of justices seemed open to rejecting Mr. Trump’s executive order, with several conservatives peppering the attorney arguing for the administration with questions about the legal underpinnings and practical applications of the directive.

Mr. Trump attended the arguments for roughly 90 minutes, the first time a sitting president has done so. He was accompanied by White House counsel David Warrington. Attorney General Pam Bondi also attended.

Following the session, Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social: “We are the only Country in the World STUPID enough to allow ‘Birthright’ Citizenship!”

Solicitor General D. John Sauer argued the case on behalf of the Trump administration, while Cecilia Wang, the legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union, argued on behalf of those challenging President Trump’s executive order.

The Supreme Court is expected to rule on the issue by late June or early July.

Reportedly, Trump stayed for the entire session as the arguments were made in favor of banning birthright citizenship. He left the Supreme Court a few minutes after the ACLU lawyer started arguing to keep the existing police in place.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller also weighed in, warning, “Birthright citizenship means the children of illegal aliens can vote to tax your children and seize their inheritance.”

Miller also wrote: “Congress has passed numerous laws criminalizing, prohibiting, forbidding and barring the entry of unauthorized and inadmissible foreigners. To say that this same class of excluded foreigners — whose very presence here is a crime — when Congress mandated a physical wall to keep them out — have a legal right to birth American Citizens is the gravest and most preposterous of all constitutional abominations.”

Below are a few audio clips of the Supreme Court arguments Wednesday morning:

Conservative podcaster Clay Travis voiced concerns that the case is doomed, and slammed Congress for not taking action.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) said he has already introduced legislation that would end birthright citizenship.
