First Lady Melania Trump hosted the second day of her “Fostering the Future Together” Global Coalition Summit at the White House, bringing together first spouses from dozens of nations to discuss education, technology, and AI.
Lady Trump entered the East Room accompanied by Figure 03, an American-made humanoid robot developed by Figure AI. The sleek, bipedal robot, designed for general-purpose tasks including household chores, walked alongside the First Lady, captivating attendees and media. Figure 03 introduced itself to the audience, stating, “Thank you, First Lady Melania Trump, for inviting me to the White House. It is an honor to be at Fostering the Future Together’s Global Coalition inaugural meeting.”
Identifying as “a humanoid built in the United States of America,” the robot expressed gratitude for being part of the movement to empower children through technology and education. It further welcomed guests in multiple languages, highlighting AI’s potential for global accessibility. Melania Trump quipped that it was her first American-made humanoid guest in the White House and spoke positively about the future of personified AI in education.
The event was intended to showcase the potential of AI development to foster better educational tools for children worldwide. However, the appearance of the humanoid robot has sparked controversy, with critics arguing that rapid advancement toward AI-powered humanoid workforces could displace human jobs at an unprecedented pace. Concerns are growing that such technology, while innovative, might lead to widespread unemployment as robots take over roles traditionally held by people.
