POLL: Are you disappointed by the resignation of Joe Kent from the Trump Admin.?

Joe Kent, the Director of the National Counterterrorism Center in President Trump’s administration, announced his resignation this week, becoming the first senior official to publicly step down over the U.S. war in Iran.

In his written statement posted on X, Kent stated, “After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today,” emphasizing his principled stand against the conflict. Kent claimed in the letter that he could not, in good conscience, support the ongoing war because Iran posed no imminent threat to the United States and that the administration had started it due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby, a shift from Trump’s prior opposition to endless Middle East wars.

A retired Green Beret and U.S. Army Special Forces combat veteran who completed multiple deployments, Kent brought extensive military expertise to his intelligence role. Tragically, Kent became a Gold Star husband when his first wife, Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Shannon Kent—a cryptologic technician supporting JSOC intelligence operations—was killed in an ISIS suicide bombing in Manbij, Syria, on January 16, 2019, along with other American personnel.

President Trump responded dismissively to the resignation, telling reporters it was “a good thing that he’s out” and labeling Kent “very weak on security” for claiming Iran was not a threat, despite having previously endorsed him for congressional runs. Some Trump allies and pro-Israel conservatives expressed relief at Kent’s departure, with figures like Laura Loomer accusing him of disloyalty, leaking, and pushing antisemitic tropes that undermined the administration.

Others in the MAGA movement find the exit as a profound loss, viewing it as another major crack in the America First coalition between non-interventionist patriots and those supporting the Iran strikes. Marjorie Taylor Greene rallied to Kent’s defense, calling him a “great American hero” and Gold Star husband while urging supporters not to believe smears against him.

The resignation hints at emerging divisions within Trump’s base and administration over the decision to go to war with Iran, pitting Kent’s military-honed skepticism of foreign entanglements against the administration’s decisive action in the Middle East.
