SECURITY ALERT: Armed Iraq-born US citizen enters school in tactical gear, asks staff about guards

Here’s the latest tactic: Foreign national gets U.S. citizenship, then changes his name to an American name…

From Fox NewsAn armed man wearing tactical gear walked into a Texas elementary school Tuesday through an improperly closed door and asked about the security presence on campus, authorities said.

Kyle Chris, 39, also known as Muhi Mohanad Najm, was arrested at his home Wednesday night and faces a felony charge of unlawfully carrying a weapon in a prohibited place after the incident at Zwink Elementary School, Fox Houston reported.

Chris, originally from Baghdad, Iraq, became a naturalized U.S. citizen on Aug. 24, 2022 and changed his name to Kyle Najm Chris, according to court documents.

He was arrested at his home, located minutes from the school by Klein Independent School District police.

Fox Houston first reported the alarming incident on Thursday, but that first report did not include information about the man’s nationality, citizenship status or name change – which happened during the Biden administration.

Chris (Najm) reportedly walked into the school dressed in tactical gear, and carrying a handgun and a taser.

Fox Houston wrote:

While Chris allegedly told police he was a security guard, court records show he is currently unemployed and does not have a security license or peace officer certification.

District officials say Chris got through the first set of front doors during a 15-second window when the doors didn’t click shut after a parent left the building. However, the school’s “secure vestibule” system stopped him from going any further. This double-door security design kept Chris trapped in the front office area, and he was never able to get into the hallways where students were located.

The school district reportedly waited 24 hours to notify parents of the alarming incident, and explain later that it was a strategic move coordinated with the FBI and DPS to keep the suspect under surveillance and ensure a safe arrest without tipping him off.

In the letter to parents, the school district said, “When the individual was asked by the front office staff to provide identification, he did not provide identification, and the front office staff immediately contacted our armed, full-time campus guard.”

The school said the man then left the building and drove away.

After being arrested Wednesday evening Chris is being held in the Harris County jail on a $75,000 bond. Fox Houston reported: “If he is released, he will be under 24-hour house arrest with a GPS monitor and is legally barred from going near any Klein ISD property.”

X user Michelle GCR reported the following additional details:

Kyle Chris Najm, also known as Muhi Mohanad Najm, has not made bail yet. Conditions have been set requiring him to be placed on a GPS monitor and remain on house arrest if released. He is not allowed to leave the county, commit any new crimes, possess a weapon, or consume drugs. He also claimed to be indigent, stating he has only $1 to his name.

According to court records, investigators were able to identify him through a law enforcement database. Officers said SA Blair utilized the CLEAR database and identified a subject named Mohanad Muhi linked to the registered address for a Dodge Charger connected to the investigation. SA Blair compared the Texas driver’s license associated with that record to images from school surveillance video and confirmed they were the same person.

Records from the Texas Department of Public Safety Driver’s License Division show Mohanad Najm Muhi is a native of Baghdad, Iraq, who became a naturalized United States citizen on August 24, 2022. Court records also indicate he was granted a legal name change by the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas to the name Kyle Chris Najm.

A report from the Texas Online Private Security database also shows the defendant previously held an Armed Security Commission that expired on August 4, 2025. The records indicate he currently holds an unarmed Private Investigator license that expires March 20, 2026, as well as a Texas Concealed Handgun License.
