From the New York Post: An upstate New York high school teacher was allegedly sidelined after she agreed to advise a Turning Point USA chapter on campus.
Jennifer Fasulo, a Spanish teacher at Charles W. Baker High School in Baldwinsville, a Syracuse suburb, was placed on a paid leave of absence on Jan. 30, just weeks after she offered to help students establish a Club America, the high school division of the Charlie Kirk co-founded conservative group, her supporters say.
“The district can confirm that a staff member has been placed on paid administrative leave while a matter is under review. We are following established administrative and legal procedures, and we are unable to comment further or share additional details at this time,” the Baldwinsville Central School informed parents in a Feb. 10 letter.
Students rallied behind Fasulo, who they described in a petition demanding her return as a victim of spiritual and political discrimination.
A statement on the petition reads: “Mrs. Fasulo is a Spanish teacher at Charles W. Baker High School located in Baldwinsville New York. She is currently facing discrimination for her spiritual and political beliefs. She has been put on administrative leave and is pending termination. We believe no educator should be punished for their personal beliefs. Please sign this petition to show support and help us get Mrs. Fasulo back where she rightfully belongs. #FreeFasulo.”
As of Monday morning, the petition has 2,480 signatures.
Dozens of comments are being posted on the petition in support of Fasulo. Below is just a few:
As someone who attends baker high school, and has Mrs. Fasulo as a teacher, she’s an amazing teacher and has impacted peoples life’s in thousands of ways. Faith based discrimination must end. There’s not one negative bone in her body. She’s such an amazing person and does not deserve this AT ALL. this is so unfair. Please bring her back. we miss you ❤️
From every interaction I have had with Jennifer, her family, and the people whose lives have been impacted by her, I am convinced that she is a very selfless, upstanding person and teacher who cares deeply for her students, and the next generation.
Jen and her family are amazing people, Jen’s compassion for teaching and her humanitarian work outside of school speaks volumes to her true character. The district needs to do right by her with their decision.
Jen was one of the most memorable educators in my high school career. 15 years later, I am a 10th year teacher myself. Her lessons still sit with me, and not just the Spanish! I remember the community she built so effortlessly. Endlessly welcoming and always with a smile on her face. She made what could have been a boring class such a joy to be a part of, and she very obviously loved every minute of being our teacher. And believe it or not – her “silly” lessons and activities actually stuck with me. Over a decade later, I still remember her foundations of Spanish lessons that have helped me to be able to communicate with my own Spanish-speaking students. Senora Fasulo is positively impacting lives far beyond her own realization, and it has nothing to do with her personal beliefs, but rather the wonderfully supportive and kind hearted person she is. Fasulo was always a favorite and forever will be ♥️ Baker would not be the same without her! – Sasso, 2012
Senora fasulo is a kind caring and respectful person and firing her for he beliefs is wrong because we should all have the right to express our beliefs and you can’t take that right away so I’m here to stand with her and hear my voice when I say we won’t be silenced
Señora Fasulo was my Spanish teacher in 2018-2019, and no teacher made me more engaged in class than she did. Seeing her support a cause that encourages kids to live a virtuous and Christlike life beyond politics is no surprise to me, as she would often reference God in her life to help kids learn, which no one ever had a problem with before because everyone knew she had a good heart. To see that part of her life be antagonized, and not just her job, but her character assassinated for having a good heart is the purest form of unjustness I’ve ever seen. If the school district carries through with this, I have no doubt this would only fracture relations between parents and administrators, and would become a enduring divisive taboo topic within the community that can be easily averted if we can recognize that everyones ability to express themselves, let alone express themselves out of good faith should be protected. To those who point at separation of church and school, I go to a SUNY school, and many of my chemistry professors run bible studies, which is something fundamentally protected, and always has been. Baldwinsville CSD should follow this precedent.
As a 21 year Naval veteran, we did not get freedom of speech! This woman was simply practicing her freedom of speech and religion. I hope and pray the school board resigns, and she wins her lawsuit against these morons! Freedom of religion is so important.

This is what’s wrong with the #american school system. By telling kids they should only believe one way, not giving them tools to make their own decisions and creating #censorship stunts them. Charlie was not hateful or racist. #TurningPoint #turningpointusa pic.twitter.com/IAZEnAXCFd
