GOOD NEWS: Dog abandoned at Las Vegas airport gets a new home

2

Dog lovers were stunned and outraged this week over the news of a woman who abandoned her two-year-old golden doodle at the ticket counter inside Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport, after she was informed she couldn’t bring the pup on board her flight without legitimate service dog documentation.

When the woman tried to check her bags, she was denied a boarding pass because she didn’t have the right documentation to fly with her dog. So she just tied the poor pup to the ticket counter and marched off toward the departure gate in a defiant attempt to board the plane anyway.

The woman became hostile when police arrested her, and when asked why she left her dog behind, she indicated that since it had a tracking device, it would be returned to her later.

Animal Protective Services took custody of the dog while the woman was placed under arrest, but she never returned to pick him up, so Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas took the dog. Now, he has found a new forever home, with one of the officers who helped rescue him.

The Las Vegas Police Department announced on social media:

LANDING AT A LOVING HOME!

Earlier today, the pup rescued by LVMPD officers and staff at Harry Reid International Airport on February 2 has officially landed in his new, loving home.

The dog affectionately nicknamed Jet Blue was permanently placed by Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas with the family of one of the officers who helped rescue the approximately 2-year-old golden doodle/mini poodle during the original incident.

LVMPD Officer Skeeter Black and his family had been working to adopt a golden doodle since September 2025 through Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas. After already being approved months ago, they were selected as Jet Blue’s new forever home.

The outpouring of support from our community throughout this situation has been overwhelming, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped ensure this pup received the care and compassion he deserved.

Bon voyage, Jet Blue and welcome to a new life where you’ll be loved beyond words by Officer Black and his family. 💙
