From Daily Mail: A liberal columnist for the New York Times said he ‘can’t imagine a parent who wouldn’t sell’ JD Vance for Percocet in a reference to his mother’s opioid addiction.
Jamelle Bouie, an award-winning writer for the paper, made the remark in response to the Daily Mail’s exclusive interview with the vice president.
In it, Vance was asked if he planned to apologize to Alex Pretti after he amplified claims that the slain Minneapolis nurse was an ‘assassin.’
Vance replied: ‘For what?’
In a post on BlueSky, Bouie wrote: “This is a wicked man who knows he is being wicked and does it anyway.”
One of Bouie’s followers said: ”What a pompous p***k. No wonder his mom tried to sell him for Percocets.”
“I can’t imagine a parent who wouldn’t sell little JD for Percocet if they knew he would turn out like this,” Bouie quipped.
Vance’s mother, Beverly, was featured prominently in his memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, which was later adapted as a movie. Beverly is a recovering addict who celebrated 10 years of sobriety in early 2025. In the memoir, it is revealed that Vance’s childhood was marked by Beverly’s struggles with addiction while he suffered abuse and neglect. Beverly now works as a nurse in a Cincinnati-area recovery center and has appeared with her son on the world stage, accompanying him and the US delegation at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, and in D.C. at his 2025 inauguration.
