From WRAL: Nancy Guthrie, the mother of TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, is missing in Arizona, NBC News reports.
NBC News reports she was last seen by family at noon on Sunday. According to NBC News, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told reporters that aspects of the scene at the home caused “grave concern.”
Officials described the case as a “search and rescue mission.”
Homicide detectives were reportedly investigating at Nancy Guthrie’s home, which is not standard for a missing person case, authorities said.
“We’ve pretty much thrown everything at this as we can,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said at a press conference.
“I don’t need to tell you, this is very concerning to us; we don’t typically get the sheriff out on a scene like this, but it is very concerning,” Nanos said.
The sheriff said there was “grave concern” for her well-being.
A missing persons flyer reads:
“Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen on the evening of January 31, 2026, at her home near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue in Pima County, Arizona. What she was wearing is unknown. If you spot her, please call 911 right away.”
Guthrie was not known to have illnesses such as dementia or Alzheimer’s and was of “good sound mind” — but officials were concerned about her being out in the cold, the sheriff said.
“She has some physical ailments that limit her ability to move around,” Nanos said.
