WATCH: Border Patrol chief clears up wild rumors about 5-yr-old child, shares heartbreaking account of another child

In a press conference on Friday, Border Patrol Chief Greg Bovino and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Executive Assistant Director of Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Marcos Charles provided an update on the immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota, and addressed the wild rumors that started circulating Thursday about a 5-year-old child.

As federal agents were seeking to apprehend an illegal alien man in Minneapolis on Tuesday, they said he jumped out of his vehicle and took off running in an attempt to escape. The man just left his 5-year-old son alone in the vehicle, only trying to save himself.

One federal agent stayed behind to care for the abandoned child, while the others took off to chase down the fleeing man. The media snapped a photo of the child with the agent and blasted out the false headlines that ICE had arrested a 5-year-old.

The liberal media and Democrat lawmakers all flew into a rage, claiming ICE used the child as “bait” to catch the man.

The illegal alien father, who agents caught, was identified as ADRIAN ALEXANDER CONEJO ARIAS, from Ecuador. Both he and the 5-year-old are now together, and have reportedly been transferred to the Dilley, Texas immigration processing center.

Fox News reporter Bill Melugin shared the following:

Fox News has obtained a DHS photo of ADRIAN ALEXANDER CONEJO ARIAS, the father of 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos. A senior DHS official tells FOX they have no record of the family entering the U.S. via the Biden era CBP One cell phone app as the family attorney claimed.

FOX is told CONEJO ARIAS is an Ecuadorean national who is in the U.S. illegally, and DHS offered him a process known as VR (voluntary return) to leave the U.S. voluntarily with no immigration consequence, but he declined.

DHS says CONEJO ARIAS fled from ICE agents who were trying to arrest him in Minnesota, leaving his 5-year-old son Liam behind with ICE agents in a situation now seen in viral photos. This has sparked claims from Democrats that Liam was “kidnapped” and “targeted” by ICE to be “used as bait”.

In the press briefing, ICE official Marcos Charles explained:

“When officers approached Conejo Arias, he and his child were in a vehicle. Arias fled from law enforcement on foot, abandoning his child in the middle of winter in a vehicle. One of our officers stayed behind with that child while other officers apprehended his father.”

“After conducting the arrest, my officers stayed with the child. They cared for him, took him to get something to eat from a drive-through restaurant, and spent hours ensuring he was taken care of. Again, my officers did that, not his father.”

“My officers did everything they could to reunite him with his family. Tragically, when we approached the door of his residence, the people inside refused to take him in and open the door. Let me say it again: they saw the young boy, and they refused to open the door and take him back.”

Bovino slammed the false narrative being pushed out about the 5-year-old boy, and the false claims that he had been separated from his family.

He then flipped the script, and pointed to victims of illegal alien criminals, who have been permanently separated from their families.

Bovino blasted thy hypocrisy of the Democrats’ outcry:

“American citizens that are arrested daily here in Minneapolis, are they separated from their children and families? Absolutely, as they should be. Criminals face consequences.”

“Criminals face consequences. But yet that double standard does not seem to apply to illegal aliens. Why is that? Perhaps someone could could detail that for me. Because I don’t quite understand all the parameters involved in the DSP: the double standard phenomena.”

“So, as we continue this mission here in Minneapolis, we will continue to take these bad people, bad things off the streets despite the DSP, the double standard phenomena, despite the false narrative reporting by many a news media outlets.”

Bovino also shared a sickening account of a 3-year-old child which Border Patrol agents encountered being brought across the border by smugglers.

He said the child had been drugged, and a medical examination revealed that the child had non-surgical sutures in his abdomen, which indicates the smugglers were likely using the child to smuggle drugs.

“Let me say that again. Non-surgical suit yours in the child’s abdomen. He was trafficked across the border in that condition. Not an isolated event with ICE,” Bovino said.

“We saw that many, many times. Drug children coming across the border, and guess what? Other than a couple of news outlets, I believe NewsNation and Fox were the only ones to report that nobody else would. Nothing on a child with non-surgical sutures in his abdomen and nobody knows why.”
