FACT CHECK: DHS blasts false media reports claiming ICE arrested 5-year-old child

Liberals have erupted in a huge meltdown after the mainstream media wildly pushed out false claims on Thursday that federal immigration agents just arrested a 5-year-old child.

The Trump administration has replied by blasting out the FACTS, and announcing that the new viral story is totally fake news.

Somalian refugee Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) raged, “ICE just detained a 5-year-old child. Don’t tell us this is about “the worst of the worst.” That’s a lie. Absolutely vile.”

DHS fired back with the facts:

ICE did NOT target a child. The child was ABANDONED. On January 20, ICE conducted a targeted operation to arrest Adrian Alexander Conejo Arias an illegal alien from Ecuador who was RELEASED into the U.S. by the Biden administration.

As agents approached the driver Adrian Alexander Conejo Arias, fled on foot—abandoning his child. For the child’s safety, one of our ICE officers remained with the child while the other officers apprehended Conejo Arias.

Parents are asked if they want to be removed with their children, or ICE will place the children with a safe person the parent designates. This is consistent with past administration’s immigration enforcement. Parents can take control of their departure and receive a free flight and $2,600 with the CBP Home app. By using the CBP Home app illegal aliens reserve the chance to come back the right legal way.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) also slammed the deceptive reports by the media, writing, “Five months ago, activists tried to paint the same picture they’re so desperately trying to paint now. They lied and claimed ICE “detained a 5-year-old.”

“That was a LIE then and it’s a LIE now. Both children were ABANDONED by their criminal illegal alien parent who put the child’s life in danger by leaving him/her behind and fleeing. Lies like these discredit the work of our brave men and women of @DHSgov who are enforcing federal immigration laws.”

The Democrat Party posted the child’s photo and wildly claimed, “In Minneapolis, ICE arrested a 5-year-old coming home from preschool and tried to use him as human bait. His teacher describes him as “a bright young student.” These monsters are sick.”

Again, DHS responded with the FACTS on the case.

BBC News published the headline, “ICE detains 5-year-old during Minnesota operation.”

ICE responded:

All the BBC does is lie. ICE did not, and has never, “used a child as bait.” The child was ABANDONED.

Vice President JD Vance also slapped down the false claims while speaking at a press briefing Thursday afternoon.

“I do a little bit more follow-up research, and what I find is that the 5-year-old was not arrested, that his dad was an illegal alien, and when they went to arrest his illegal alien father, the father RAN… Are they supposed to let a 5-year-old child freeze to death?” he declared.

Democrat Rep. Joaquin Castro (Tex.) wrote, “I am aware of reports that five-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos may be in San Antonio. My staff and I are doing everything we can to locate him, check on his safety and demand his release. I will inspect the Dilley Detention Center next week.”

DHS fired back again, with the facts on the case.

The Washington Post claimed, “ICE agents in Minnesota detained at least four children from the same school district, including a 5-year-old, deepening skepticism about the Trump administration’s claims of targeting violent criminals.”

Libs of TikTok fired back, “His illegal alien father abandoned him and an agent stayed with him to make sure he was safe while another agent pursued the father. Pure lies and propaganda from WaPo.”

The Daily Beast wildly claimed ICE used the 5-year-old as “bait” to arrest his father.

DNC Chair Ken Martin also re-posted the false claim, referring to an article by Minnesota Public Radio.

Again, ICE fired back with the FACTS on the case, and declared, “You’re lying for clicks yet again. ICE did not, and has never, “used a child as bait.” The child was ABANDONED.”
