POLL: Should elected officials in the U.S. be allowed to use the Quran for swearing-in ceremonies?

12

From the New York Post: Zohran Mamdani will be the first New York City mayor to be sworn in on a Quran when he takes office at midnight on Jan. 1, officials said.

Mamdani, who will be the first Muslim and first socialist to lead City Hall, will use at least three different sets of Islam’s holy book to take the oath of office during his private and public ceremonies Thursday, his spokesperson said.

The far-left pol is expected to use his grandfather’s Quran and one that belonged to black writer and historian Arturo Schomburg, lent by the New York Public Library, during a private midnight ceremony at the abandoned Old City Hall subway station.

New York Attorney General Letitia James, a far-left Democrat, will swear in Mamdani at the subway station.

Socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) will then swear Mamdani in during a second ceremony later on Thursday in front of the city hall. There, Mamdani will again use his grandfather’s religious book and at least one other family Quran.

Mamdani, 34, was born in Uganda and only became a U.S. Citizen in 2018. He also still holds citizenship in Uganda. He will be the first Muslim mayor of New York City, and also the first Democrat Socialist to hold the position.

Journalist Laura Loomer wrote, “In case you’re wondering how the Islamic takeover of America is going, ⁦@nytimes⁩ is gushing this morning about how ⁦@ZohranKMamdani⁩ is going to be the first Mayor of New York City to take his oath of office on the Quran. Disgusting. We are an occupied country!”

Former Rep. Madison Cawthorn suggested, “If you are sworn into office on a Quran, your inauguration is invalid.”

Typically, all elected officials use the Holy Bible for their swearing-in ceremonies, although Muslim officials normally use the Quran. In lieu of the Bible, the U.S. Constitution could be used for non-Christians.
