From the New York Post: The heartbroken mother of missing teen Camila Mendoza Olmos hauntingly uttered the same four words as officials recovered a body near the family’s San Antonio home on Tuesday.
Rosario Olmos was left in shock when sheriff’s deputies and FBI agents recovered human remains in a Bexar County field nearly a full week after the 19-year-old disappeared during her Christmas Eve walk.
“So close to home,” the elder Olmos repeatedly uttered, according to Frank Trevino, who has helped with the search for Camila.
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar told reporters Tuesday evening that the body had been found in a field only about 250 yards from the family’s home, and said it had been there for five or six days.
The heartbroken mother last saw her daughter getting out of bed on Christmas Eve, and believed she was just going on her regular morning walk.
After Camila did not return home from the walk, a relative reported that a firearm they owned was also missing. A gun was recovered near the body, but officials have not officially confirmed if it is the same gun that was reported missing.
Sheriff Salazar said foul play is not suspected, and noted that one of their fears in searching for the girl was the possibility of self-harm. He said she “was a young person going through a very tough time in her life.”
