Celebration
“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May it be to me according to your word.”
Luke 1:38
Mary’s response to the angel Gabriel is one of the most profound declarations of faith in Scripture. Imagine the magnitude of what she faced: a young woman, engaged to be married, suddenly confronted with the reality that she would carry the Son of God. This was not a small detour in her life plans—it was a complete redirection, filled with potential for misunderstanding, judgment, and personal sacrifice.
Yet, Mary responded not with hesitation but with humble surrender: “I am the Lord’s servant.” These words reflect a heart fully yielded to God, trusting Him even when the path ahead seemed uncertain and daunting. Her faith wasn’t based on fully understanding God’s plan, but on trust.
To truly celebrate the birth of our Lord this Christmas, we need to join Mary in surrendering our lives to Him. We need to learn to say, “Lord, ‘not my will, but yours be done’” (Luke 22:42).
This Christmas season, as we reflect on the birth of our Savior, let’s also reflect on Mary’s courageous faith. Her willing submission played a pivotal role in God’s redemptive story. What might God do through our lives if we, too, choose to surrender fully to Him?
Dear Lord, thank You for Your loving hand in our lives. We pray today for a humble heart that seeks Your will. Sometimes it is difficult to surrender to Your will, but we know that You can plant in us the seeds that will bring us to a place where we can see that Your will is best. In Jesus’ name we pray, AMEN.
