Somalian refugee Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) has been in the hot seat amid the growing number of fraud schemes uncovered in Minnesota involving the state’s huge Somali migrant community.
Video clips are being recirculated on social media that indicate Omar is in Congress to work more on behalf of her home county of Somalia and the Somali migrant community than she is for everyday Americans.
Billionaire Elon Musk commented on one of those videos, and accused Omar of committing treason.
The New York Post explains:
Soon after, Omar’s Jan. 27, 2024, comments to her Twin Cities constituents that she would do everything in her power to prevent the breakaway Republic of Somaliland from entering into a sea-access deal with landlocked Ethiopia were rocketing around social media, courtesy of the Tesla and SpaceX CEO.
“The US government will only do what Somalians in the US tell them to do,” read a translation of Omar’s remarks. “They will do what we want and nothing else. They must follow our orders and that is how we will safeguard the interest of Somalia … As long as I am in the US Congress, Somalia will never be in danger, its waters will not be stolen by Ethiopia or others. The US would not dare to support anyone against Somalia to steal our land or oceans. Sleep in comfort, knowing I am here to protect the interests of Somalia from inside the US system.”
“This sounds like treason,” Elon Musk wrote, sharing the video.

Christian Collins, founder and president of the Texas Youth Summit also suggested, “This sounds a lot like treason to me.”

Another video has also resurfaced, of former Prime Minister of Somalia
Hassan A Khaire speaking at a rally in support of Omar, as he declares, “The interests of Ilhan Omar are not the interest of Minnesota, nor is it the interest of Americans. The interests of Ilhan is that of the Somalian people and Somalia.”

Public speaker Laura Aboli shared a disturbing history lesson:
THE UNTOLD STORY OF ILHAN OMAR’S FAMILY
Before they arrived in America as “refugees,” Ilhan Omar’s family held power in Somalia. Her father, Nur Omar Mohamed, was a colonel in Siad Barre’s military; the same regime responsible for the genocide of the Isaaq people, one of the most brutal ethnic exterminations in modern African history.
Between 1987–1989 (roughly), under Siad Barre’s regime, the Somali government carried out a systematic campaign against the Isaaq-clan civilians: mass killings, aerial and artillery bombardment, forced displacement, village destruction, rape, land-mining, and other atrocities. Cities were flattened and communities wiped out.
In a genocidal regime, a colonel is not an innocent bystander, he receives orders and he enforces them; he knows exactly what the state is doing.
So the real story is not that Ilhan Omar’s family “fled violence”,
but that they fled after their side lost. And yet she lectures America about justice and morality. History has a long memory. Sooner or later, truth catches up.
