President Donald Trump is losing his patience with Colorado’s Democrat Governor Jared Polis, who has refused to release a Republican “gold star” mother and former clerk of Mesa County, Colorado, from prison.
Tina Peters, now 70, was sentenced to 9 years in prison in October 2024 by a Democrat-appointed judge for her well-intentioned efforts to preserve records on Dominion voting machines after the 2020 election. She was indicted in March 2022 after prosecutors accused her of improperly permitting someone to copy access passwords and other files from a voting system. She is considered as a whistleblower by conservatives.
Peters is a cancer survivor, and her son, a combat veteran and US Navy SEAL, was killed in 2017 at age 27 in a parachute accident while performing at an air show in New York City.
President Trump had requested in August that Peters be released from prison immediately. However, she was charged by the state of Colorado, and not by the federal government, so Trump is unable to pardon her. In September, Peters had posted a moving letter to Trump.
The Trump administration formally requested last month that the State of Colorado transfer Peters to the Federal Bureau of Prisons. This week, Gov. Polis rejected that request.
President Trump just posted the following fiery statement Wednesday evening:
The SLEAZEBAG Governor of Colorado, Jared Polis, refuses to allow an elderly woman, Tina Peters, who was unfairly convicted of what the Democrats do, cheating on Elections, out of jail!
She was convicted for trying to stop Democrats from stealing Colorado Votes in the Election. She was preserving Election Records, which she was obligated to do under Federal Law.
She has now served more than one year in jail, and has eight years to go. On top of everything else, she is a cancer “survivor.” This lightweight Governor, who has allowed his State to go to hell (Tren de Aragua, anyone?), should be ashamed of himself. FREE TINA!
On November 29, a friend of Peters posted the following statement, expressing concern for her health:
I am asking everyone to please pray for @realtinapeters right now. I spoke with her and she does not sound well. Tonight was the worst she has sounded healthwise to me to date.
Please pray for an immediate recovery and a ruling that releases her or puts her in a position to get proper medical attention. God please take care of our Tina. Amen

Kari Lake, administration for the US Agency for Global Media, spoke out last weekend, saying, “Tina Peters is a really good woman. I know her personally. I consider her a friend… To throw her behind bars—the same corrupt people in Colorado who were behind the election malfeasance—when she was trying to say, “We are going to collect the evidence and make sure that we are responsible to the voters and the taxpayers,” they throw her in prison for that. They put her in prison for that…They threw the book at her for a ridiculous non-crime.”
