From the New York Post: The Trump administration has opened a new front in its immigration crackdown, targeting illegal Somali immigrants in Minneapolis with a push of more than 100 ICE agents.
Immigration agents are targeting as many as 500 Somalis in the country illegally in the city, which is home to the US’ largest population from the war-torn East African nation, estimated at over 80,000, according to several reports.
The operation follows the stunning revelation that scammers in the Somali migrant community have engaged in massive fraud — costing Minnesota taxpayers some $1 billion — which happened right under the nose of Gov. Tim Walz, according to the state’s Department of Human Services.
While speaking to reporters during a Cabinet Meeting on Tuesday, President Trump blasted the Somali migrants in Minnesota, and pointed to the recently-exposed fraud scheme. He said about 88% of the Somali migrants are living off welfare, and “contribute nothing” to the state.
“I don’t want ’em in our country. Their country is no good for a reason. Their country stinks,” Trump declared.
“We have to rebuild our country… our country is at a tipping point… we’re going to go the wrong way if we keep taking garbage into our country,” he warned. “When they come from hell and they complain and do nothing but bitch — we don’t want them in our country. Let ’em go back to where they came from and fix it.”

Minn. state senator Omar Fateh, who recently lost his race for mayor of Minneapolis, blasted out a series of posts on X Tuesday afternoon. He wrote:
ICE has been seen all over Minneapolis, abducting our neighbors from the streets and their homes as a part of their operation. Please share this thread with your friends and neighbors to make sure they have access to the resources necessary to protect each other. 🧵
ICE is targeting Somali neighbors who are undocumented or have final orders of removal. But across the country, large operations have frequently resulted in the arrests of many other people who were in the vicinity of the operation.

If you have valid legal status (a green card, TPS, student visa, etc.) and no criminal record, you should not be at risk. If you are a U.S. citizen, you cannot be arrested by ICE or deported. But if you are Somali or Latino in particular, please move with caution.
“Final Order of Removal” is the last step in an immigration court before someone can be deported. If you are unsure whether you have one, you can find your immigration court records here: https://acis.eoir.justice.gov If you have legal status, you should always carry records with you.

If your legal status is in question, you should contact an immigration lawyer as soon as possible. You should know your legal rights so that you can assert them if it is necessary. An immigration attorney can provide individualized legal advice, which can help you and your family plan for all possibilities. A legal referral list can be found online here: https://theadvocatesforhumanrights.org/Res/Attorney%20Agency%20Referral%20List%20-%20ENGLISH%203.pdf

If you are joining your neighbors to observe ICE activity, please remain peaceful and orderly. In other cities, Trump has used the optics of chaotic protests to send the National Guard to communities for extended periods of time.

Fox 9 Minneapolis pushed out a report claiming that ICE is “targeting” Somalis in Minneapolis, and advised immigrants to “know your rights and seek help from an immigration attorney.”
