From the New York Post: Portland has sparked outrage after stripping its Christmas tree of its name, referring to it only as “the tree” during its lighting ceremony.
As thousands gathered in Pioneer Courthouse Square for the Oregon city’s 41st annual tree-lighting on Friday night, leaders and speakers avoided mentioning “Christmas” at any point — including in the ceremony itself and the event’s ads.
The festive occasion was kicked off with a woman from the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs thanking everyone in the crowd for coming out on Native American Heritage Day.
She introduced two younger members of the tribe, who referred to the celebration only as “the tree lighting,” before handing the microphone to another featured speaker.
While refusing to acknowledge Christmas, the event instead became all about Palestine. The report notes that a woman speaking at the event was draped in a Palestinian flag, ranted about genocides and led the crowd in a ‘Free Palestine’ chant.
Organizers finally brought out Santa Clause and had a sing-along of holiday carols before lighting the tree.

Portland city council member Eric Zimmerman did call it a Christmas tree in a social media post:

Can you feel it fading?
🎄Some of my favorite Christmas memories were created in downtown Portland.
Meier & Frank’s Santaland was a generational favorite in my family. A ride on the Monorail and a picture with Santa became a Christmas tradition until it closed down .

Local media outlet, The Oregonian, also refused to use the word Christmas, instead writing, “Thousands gather in downtown Portland for beloved holiday tree tradition.”
The word “Christmas” is not used once in their entire article, except in a caption under a photo.

Folks, this is exactly what happens when the radical Left captures institutions. A Christmas tree lighting, a wholesome tradition that’s supposed to bring families together to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and the joy of the season, gets hijacked and turned into a woke lecture hall.
They can’t help themselves. Every public space, every holiday, every moment of shared American culture has to be weaponized to push their secular, anti-family, anti-faith ideology. Acknowledging a Native land statement or whatever performative nonsense they slipped in isn’t “inclusion”; it’s deliberate alienation of the very people who have built and sustained this country for generations.
Portland has been ground zero for this cultural Marxism for years, and the decent, hardworking people there are sick of it. You want unity? Start by respecting the actual reason for the season instead of scrubbing Christ out of Christmas to appease a tiny clique of activists who hate everything normal families hold dear.
Take your city back. Show up. Speak out. Run for school board, city council, whatever it takes. Because if we let them turn every tree lighting, every parade, every July 4th into a guilt-trip seminar, there will be nothing left of the America we love. Merry Christmas, and God bless the people of Portland fighting to keep it that way. 🇺🇸
