SEEING DOUBLE: Twin brother of retiring GOP congressman launches bid for his seat

4

Well, here’s something you don’t see happen very often.

Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) announced Saturday that he has decided not to run for re-election when his term in Congress expires next year. Nehls, 57, has represented the 22nd District for Texas since January 2021.

Exactly one hour after Nehls made the announcement of his decision to retire on X, his twin brother, Trever Nehls, announced in a Facebook post that he is running for his brother’s seat in U.S. Congress.

Trever Nehls has served in the Army Reserve for 24 years, including tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He previously served as a member of the Fort Bend County Constables in Texas, representing Precinct 4, until he left office on December 31, 2020.

Since President Donald Trump had heartily endorsed Troy Nehls in his last campaign for office, it is presumed his twin brother will receive Trump’s endorsement as well.

Trever’s announcement reads:

I am honored to announce my candidacy for Congressional District 22 to continue fighting for the people of this district.

I want to thank my brother for his decades of service in the military and in law enforcement where we served together. Troy has always led with integrity, courage, and a relentless commitment to public safety and he put our community first.

District 22 needs a Representative who will follow in Troy’s footsteps and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with President Trump to defend our conservative values, secure the border, protect our families, and oppose the reckless and radical agenda that Democrats continue to press upon the American people. I’m ready to take up that fight.

I know this district. And, this district knows me. I will work every day to earn your trust and carry on the tradition of America First leadership that our outgoing Congressman Troy Nehls set.

Your support is appreciated and I will strive to proudly represent you.

Rep. Troy Nehls did not mention his brother’s campaign in his post on X, but he shared a longer message on his Facebook page, in which he endorsed Trevor’s campaign for his seat.  He wrote:

After more than 30 years in law enforcement serving and protecting my community as a police officer, constable, Fort Bend County Sheriff, an Army veteran, and six years representing this district in Congress, I have made the decision, after conversations with my beautiful bride and my girls over the Thanksgiving holiday, to focus on my family and return home from Congress.

Before making this decision, I called President Trump personally to let him know of my plans. President Trump has always been a strong ally for our district and a true friend, and I wanted him to hear it from me first.

Our district deserves a representative who already knows the people, the values, and the challenges we face. I’m proud to say that person is my twin brother, Trever Nehls, who shares the same commitment to defending our constitution, securing our borders, and putting America First. After my call with President Trump, I am confident Trever will earn President Trump’s endorsement.

I am endorsing my brother, Trever, to succeed me in Congress because I trust him, I believe in him, and I know he will fight every single day for the people of this district. He won’t need on-the-job training; he’s ready now.

Serving this country in the military, serving our community in law enforcement, and serving this district in Congress has been the honor of my life. Thank you for your trust, your friendship, and your prayers.
