UPDATE: New footage shows hero National Guardsman open fire on suspected Afghan terrorist

From the New York Post: Disturbing new footage shows the moment a hero National Guard member opened fire on the suspected Afghan terrorist — just moments after the alleged gunman ambushed two troops in a broad daylight attack.

The suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, could be seen brazenly wielding his gun as he fired rounds at the National Guard members in Washington, DC, on Thanksgiving eve, according to a clip obtained by the Wall Street Journal.

At one point, a male guard can be seen running down the street as he frantically tries to reload his own weapon.

Lakanwal is seen wearing all dark clothing during the attack. Photos of him later in custody, and being loaded into an ambulance, show police had stripped him nearly naked while arresting him.

Lakanwal was reportedly shot four times by responding National Guard members, but his wounds are non-life-threatening.

Earlier reports had indicated Lakanwal had overstayed his visa. However, Fox News correspondent Jennifer Griffin shared the following clarification:

Alleged shooter Rahmanullah Lakanwal worked for the CIA in Afghanistan out of Kandahar base, according to CIA director John Ratcliffe. Multiple sources tell me he was vetted before working with the CIA by the NCTC (National Counterterrorism Center) and the CIA. I am told that Lakanwal was with the Task Force in Kandahar.

During the Afghan withdrawal, the CIA airlifted with the help of the US military many Afghan allies who had worked with the US government and took special care of those who were badged and worked with the agency. They were taken to bases in Qatar and Europe and then onward to military bases in the US where further vetting was supposed to take place. Having a CIA ID would have put him in the “vetted” category.

I am told there was nothing in his background when he arrived in the US on Sept 8, 2021 that suggested links to terrorism. He applied for asylum last year and reportedly received asylum in April under the Trump administration.
